Conference Presentations-American Association of Biological Anthropologists

Dr. Kelsey Jorgensen, Dr. Obed Garcia, and Emily Degruson presented their research at the American Association of Biological Anthropologists (AABA) in Denver, Colorado!

Emily Degruson presents her research “Immune biomarkers and candidate genetic variant associations with dengue virus Infection in Guatemala” that analyzed how the immune system responds to infection to clarify underlying disease mechanisms and aid in predicting severe dengue.

Dr. Kelsey Jorgensen speaks about her research “Hidden Travelers: Using Insect DNA to Reveal Ancient Human Movement in the Andes” that explored how the genetics of potato pest can be used to unravel ancient human migration.

Dr. Obed Garcia speaks about his research “Illuminating Immune Diversity in Guatemala with the Human Pangenome” that demonstrates how a pangenomic strategy can be critical in the discovery of disease-associated variants that often missed in traditional analyses.
